The White House announced Thursday that a drone strike in January on al-Qaida accidentally resulted in the death of two hostages. The Fulton Terminals Superfund site is located about 10 miles south of the city of Oswego on State Route 104 and is bordered to the south by Shaw Street. The 1.5-acre parcel of land was placed on the National Priorities List in 1983, according to the Third Five-Year Review Report for the site by the EPA from May 2014.

An Oswego State student was arrested for first-degree rape Feb. 13 by University Police. Abhay Pant, 18, is a resident of Hart Hall from New Delhi, India. According to a statement from Julie Blissert, the director of Public Affairs, Pant allegedly entered the room of another resident and sexually assaulted the victim in the early morning hours of Friday.

Garrick Utley died of cancer on Feb. 20 in his home in Manhattan at the age of 74. Utley was a professor at Oswego State since the fall of 2012 when he began teaching “Broadcast News: Its History and Its Future” with the use of a video conference system on the second floor of Culkin Hall. Utley would teach from the SUNY Global Center in Manhattan.

Following a recent attack by two dogs that left a third dog dead, a new bill is in the works to require local governments to create a dangerous dog alert system. Assemblyman Jim Tedisco, R-Glenville, announced on July 17 that he is drafting a bill that would mandate municipalities alert their residents about dangerous dogs in their neighborhoods via the Internet.
